What to expect
Supported Buddies are mainly first-year students in the social work programme who are paired with a higher-year student. This peer support is designed to provide you with a safe space, informal guidance, encouragement and an insight into what to expect on the programme. Supported Buddies are encouraged to engage with their peer buddy to make the most of the opportunity to talk to someone who has been through it all. This is not a tutoring or counselling service, but a chance to connect with a peer who can support you through your time on the social work programme.
Benefits
As a Supported Buddy, you will learn from the experience and insights of higher-year students:- Gain practical tips on time management, effective study habits, completing assignments and managing placements
- Receive encouragement and reassurance from someone who understands your journey
- Be able to ask questions and express concerns openly in a safe space, without fear of being judged
- Increase your social and academic confidence and develop your independence and problem-solving skills
